Slumdog Millionaire
January 7th, 2009
I‘ve been excited about every Danny Boyle cinema experience and this latest number did not disappoint. Far from it. My last film post on here was about Sunshine, and I was pretty thrilled about that, it was a beautiful film, which Ive watched sparingly as I do with all the films I love. I do this so I dont remember the details and dialogue, wait at least a year and watch them again.
Slumdog Millionaire, I think, is one of those films which will stand the test of time for me, and I’ll be recommending it to people to watch for years. Its a sumptuous piece of work. Visually arresting, musically sound, narrated so well, you forgot that its quite a grim constructed fantasy. (it is uplifting too though might I add) It does a really good job of helping you suspend disbelief at every turn, and going along for the fast paced ride that it is. I loved it and I’d like to hear from anyone who didnt.
So yes, I highly recommended you go and watch it in the cinema. I’d also like to extend a generous dose of hate to Huddersfield Odeon corp, who currently lack the balls to show this film as a regular showing. Thinking its non mainstream enough to only warrrant one directors chair showing. This is the second time theyve left me sorely dissapointed for having limited showings of (possible) non high earners. Shame on them. The UCI certainly didnt give a damn.
